Environmental Standards

Environmentally Professional Ewaste Recycling

There are a multitude of electronics recycling standards under development, both national and international, all of which have as a key focus the control of ewaste export. To date, while some Canadian standards have full auditability, there are no standards in the US that are audited and they are predominantly based on the honor system.

In Canada, Sims Recycling Solutions follows the Electronic Product Stewardship Canada (ESPC) standard and is regularly audited by a third party to ensure compliance with the standard.

In the absence of an auditable standard in the US, Sims Recycling Solutions has developed its own Environmental Management Standards for the recycling of ewaste. These are characterized by:

  • Legal Compliance
  • Environmental Management Systems and ISO14001
  • No export of electronic equipment for recycling
  • No landfill of electronic equipment
  • No use of prison labor
  • Full testing of reusable equipment
  • Full downstream auditing for Designated Materials/Materials of Concern
